:: Collections of the Museum of Kurpiowska Culture

 

  • Ethnography - exhibits coming from the area of Kurpiowska White and Green Forest, concerning mainly material and spiritual culture. A very important place occupies the country craft, household gadgets, artist ritual, folk art, among it valuable collections of paper cut-outs (about 600 pieces), sacral sculpture, clothes and fabrics. There are also collected archival materials connected with artists and folk art of the region.
  • History - there are gained exhibits connected with the uprisings: kościuszkowskie, listopadowe (especially the battle of Ostrołęka and the personage of Gen. J. Bem) and styczniowe. Interesting collections, especially archival and iconographic concern the history of Ostrołęka, craft and outstanding people.
  • Art - the main profile of the collection is the art of the period of twenty years between the wars (Z. Stryjeńska, W. Borowski, V. Hofman, A. Pronaszko, E.Zak). There are also collected furniture and objects of artistic craft from the XIX century and plastic works of painters from Ostrołęka.
  • Archeology - monuments originate from the area of previous ostrołęckie province, they present the life, culture and beliefs of societies living formerly in the Narew and Bug regions.
  • Library - collects proffesional, scientific literature and magazines. Till the end of 2000 the Museum in Ostrołęka collected 9120 exhibits.
